Cochabamba · Public-outing interpretation
Cholita Skate
Cholita Skate pairs a full pollera silhouette with a light blouse, regional hat and low skate shoes. This blue-and-white interpretation draws on the clothing visible in selected public outings by Cochabamba’s ImillaSkate collective, with a skateboard carried at rest.
Cholita Skate is a proposed label for this guide, not the collective's name or a universal Bolivian style. The illustration follows the white high-crowned hat visible in its Cochabamba references.
History
In an April 2024 Kulturaustausch interview, co-founder Daniela Santiváñez described wearing ancestral clothing at a 2019 city festival. She distinguishes these public appearances from ordinary training clothes. This supports the 2019–2024 outing period, not a newly invented clothing tradition.
What defines the look
Treat the photograph’s regional details as meaningful choices. A skirt’s fullness needs a clearly defined waist, while a short blouse or light tuck keeps that line visible. Here the plain linen top is an accessible styling adaptation, separately sourced from the documented garments. It is not presented as an artisan-made embroidered blouse. The low shoes give a different finish from formal pumps without changing the pollera’s central role. The portrait is a still outfit study; it does not prescribe what to wear for practice or reproduce a collective member’s identity.
Hair & styling details
Two plain braids and softly glowing natural makeup finish this fictional young Bolivian portrait. No ceremonial embellishment is invented.
Choose hair ties and hat fastenings that stay comfortable. Jewellery can remain minimal so it does not catch on the blouse or braids.
An illustrated outfit study
One way to put the pieces together
A blue full pollera, light blouse, tall white Cochabamba hat and low skate shoes form a still public-outing interpretation, with the proposed label clearly bounded. The illustration interprets visible details; it cannot establish hidden construction.

Build your own look
Pieces to start with
- Full pleated pollera
- Look for a maker or source that identifies the regional garment. Check the waist fit and the room the skirt needs when sitting; avoid assuming all polleras share one cut.
- Light blouse
- A plain white blouse leaves the skirt outline clear. Keep the tuck comfortable and make sure sleeve ties stay secure and clear of your hands.
- Regional hat
- Use the shape appropriate to the documented reference. Check the fit and fastening before wearing it outside; the illustration follows a tall white crown and broad brim.
- Low skate shoes
- A dark low upper and pale rubber edge give the outfit a practical base. Choose shoes that fit your feet and the activity you actually plan to do.

Ways to put it together
Styling suggestions from Coreification.
- Illustrated outfit: blue pleated pollera + plain white puff-sleeve blouse + white high-crowned hat + black-and-white low skate shoes. The board is carried, not ridden.
- A social-outing variation: a maker-attributed pollera in another colour + a simple light blouse + familiar flat shoes. Let the skirt and regional hat remain the main features.
- Practical adaptation: for practice, use comfortable everyday skate clothing suited to movement. Keep special garments for occasions you choose; the collective’s public look need not become a training uniform.
