Contemporary Agbada
Contemporary Agbada places a generous embroidered outer robe over a coordinating inner tunic and trousers. Broad shoulder folds and the contrast with the narrower legs give the outfit its shape. This black-and-gold interpretation adds a softly folded cap, low loafers and a small bracelet watch.

Background
Vanguard Allure’s December 2024 report on Ramyjoo Apparel’s Arcade Fashion Week presentation included an agbada-led look. Its broad cream robe provides a recent runway reference. What defines the look
The outer robe is essential to this interpretation. Its width and hanging folds distinguish the outfit from a single close tunic over trousers. Let the inner sleeves and trouser legs remain visible at the edges so the layers read clearly. Different makers use different fabrics and ornament: embroidery alone does not establish that a garment is woven aso-oke, and the illustrated black set’s exact fibre remains unspecified.
