Vogue India documented designer experiments with dhoti salwars in May 2019. Its Nikasha example places a short peplum above gathered trousers. A separately inspected Dyelogue product provides the red draped trouser reference used here; these sources establish recent designer visibility, not a 2026 popularity peak.

What defines the look

The crucial contrast is between an abbreviated upper line and concentrated lower volume. Unlike a sharara, the legs close towards the ankle rather than opening into broad flares. Choose a stitched version whose waistband stays secure when sitting and walking. A cropped blouse is one option; a short kurta gives more coverage while keeping the characteristic drape exposed.

A centre-parted low bun keeps the neckline and earrings clear. A few loose strands soften the illustrated silhouette without covering the blouse.
