Glam Rockcore

History
Early-1970s glam rock joined music with striking visual personas. One well-documented example is David Bowie’s work with tailor Freddie Burretti: the V&A records their 1972 Ziggy Stardust costumes and Burretti’s exaggerated shoulders and narrow waists. Angie Bowie, Daniella Parmar and other collaborators also contributed to that visual world.
What defines the look
The V&A documents the collaboration behind Bowie’s early Ziggy clothing and the role of Freddie Burretti’s tailoring. It also records Kansai Yamamoto’s sculptural approach and Bowie tour designs. This contemporary outfit draws on glam’s dramatic proportions: a broad satin collar above a fitted dark jacket, flared trousers and luminous silver heels. The restrained black-and-ivory upper body gives the metallic boots room to stand out.
Hair & styling details
