Jack Lasky's EBSCO reference article describes online interest in empty transitional places such as corridors and waiting rooms. Anna Solomon's May 2026 Wallpaper feature follows the Backrooms example from a 2019 online image into film production, including production designer Danny Vermette's account of building familiar yet unsettling interiors. These sources explain the visual reference, rather than a historical clothing movement.
What defines the look
The outfit takes its palette from subdued everyday surfaces: khaki, off-white, dark grey and muted suede. Its work jacket has a plain pointed collar and a practical zip; its trousers have a straight line and familiar pressed creases. A little tee hem below the jacket creates a quiet mismatch in lengths.
