History
In a 2024 Metropolis interview, Minori recalls beginning white-face makeup in 2008 after Gothic and Lolita clothing and an introduction to Malice Mizer. She describes making clothes through materials and drawing on childhood nature. A 2012 Japan Forum profile records Tsunoshi using white makeup to develop an imaginative world and gathering people in Harajuku. These are distinct artist accounts, rather than evidence of a single founder or universal costume.
What defines the look
The face paint should read as a deliberate surface, clearly lighter than the neck and hands. Give the eye design one strong asymmetrical direction, then keep the lip muted so its leaves and petal marks stay visible. The outfit repeats the same relationships at larger scales: green linen provides a broad field, ivory net creates openings, and the compact flower comb adds a small raised texture near the hair. Minori’s and Tsunoshi’s photographed approaches differ, so this guide follows a specific botanical route. Keep the shawl low enough to reveal the wrap neckline, and let the boot buttons remain visible below the skirt.
Hair & styling details
Long ash-blonde waves gathered into a low side twist leave room for the flower comb. Soft parted fringe and a few loose strands frame the face without covering the painted eye.
Use clearly opaque white face paint as the base, with precise grey-plum lashes and an original sage leaf design around one eye. Muted cool rose-grey lips balance the botanical marks; the painted face remains visibly lighter than the neck and hands.
