History
The International Tennis Hall of Fame documents Suzanne Lenglen’s loose sleeveless dresses, Lili Alvarez’s divided skirt and Helen Wills’s visor as part of tennis fashion history. In April 2024, Vogue used Tenniscore while discussing renewed interest around Challengers and Zendaya’s press-tour outfits.
What defines the look
The fitted upper dress opens into a short pleated skirt, while the white crew socks repeat its color below. Low cream sneakers give the hem a simple base. Wear the visor over a high ponytail so its open crown remains clear; the small green emblem is enough decoration. Collared tops, knitted V-necks and clean shorts provide other ways to build the look. The sporting history also includes Althea Gibson, who competed through the American Tennis Association before becoming the first African-American player at the U.S. National Championships in 1950.
