Ganguro
Ganguro is a branch of Japanese gyaru fashion known for a deliberately deep tan, lightened hair and conspicuous pale eye and lip makeup. Bright compact clothes and substantial platforms complete many documented looks. The contrast between tan, hair and cosmetics is central; a colorful mini-skirt outfit alone does not explain the style.

Gyaru beauty practices also changed across periods: egg editor Hitomi Akaogi describes both more and less exaggerated directions. A contemporary illustration can retain Ganguro's visual contrast while making its clothing choices clear and avoiding a claim that one outfit represents everyone.
