Raggare

History
Photographer Per-Olof Sännås describes Raggare's emergence in late-1950s Stockholm through young people, American cars, leather jackets and jeans. His book Raggarna, published in 2012 after three years of work in the scene, documents its continuing car gatherings and social life. The clothes sit within that larger cruising and rock-and-roll culture.
What defines the look
The white tee and dark jeans form a familiar base, but the details set its rhythm. A short jacket reveals the waistband, while a small jean cuff shows the high-top's white lacing and rubber edge. Silver snaps and zips punctuate the upper half. Keep the tee plain so those hardware lines stay easy to read. Sännås's photographs show different generations and several approaches to getting dressed: swept hair, club shirts, leather, denim and casual tops appear around the cars. His close portrait of a woman emphasizes light hair, dark eye definition and earrings, while other pictures foreground the gatherings themselves.
