History
Lauren McCarthy’s 2020 NYLON oral history records Hanna Beth’s memories of styling her own shoots, going to shows and wearing tutus and crowns with Audrey Kitching. Participants connect the scene’s visibility with Myspace, Buzznet and Warped Tour. The label became attached to recognizable online personalities and their strong visual signatures.
What defines the look
In her 2017 Galore interview, Hanna Beth describes music as central to early Myspace life and remembers experimenting with bright eye makeup. The photographs accompanying NYLON’s oral history show varied clothes—pink lace, loose tees, bright tops and layered shirts—alongside strong hair and liner. A scene-queen look can therefore be built through proportion and beauty styling as well as a specific garment. Here the tee is deliberately compact, with a narrow leopard-and-zipper strip at the chest. The skirt supplies most of the hardware and movement: a fitted hip section opens into light tulle tiers, while violet ribbons and hanging ring straps repeat vertical and horizontal lines. Plain pink tights separate the black skirt from the shoes without adding another pattern. Keep the high tops low and flat, with their white toe caps visible. The hair repeats the pink in a different texture: a lifted crown, smooth long ends and narrow black-striped sections. This is the feature to preserve when simplifying the outfit for everyday wear.
Hair & styling details
Lift the choppy crown and sweep a long diagonal fringe across the forehead. Keep the lower lengths straight, with two narrow horizontal black-striped sections visible beside the face; a wig or clip-in pieces can supply the color.
Draw black liner close to both upper and lower lashes, extending the outer corner slightly. A small violet lid accent echoes the ribbon; keep the lip softly pink so the eyes and hair stay dominant.
