Tivaevae Wrap Couture
Tivaevae Wrap Couture places expressive hand stitching on a softly wrapped evening silhouette. A large bust bow, generous skirt folds and spacious floral ornament give this direction its shape. Dark sunglasses provide a crisp counterpoint to the soft pink cloth, while small gold accessories keep the emphasis on the gown.

Background
Karen Walker and the Kūki ‘Airani Creative Māmās, led by Tukua Turia, made a wool-flannel gown for the 2018 Commonwealth Fashion Exchange. Te Papa records how the team adapted decorative stitching associated with tivaevae after deciding against an appliqué construction.
What defines the look
The collaboration brings named makers and their textile knowledge into eveningwear. Its museum documentation offers a more precise starting point than treating every large floral dress as the same direction.
