Trap Metal — red jersey and black utility layers
Trap Metal
Trap-metal styling draws intensity from dark streetwear, hard fasteners and strong contrasts in volume. This utility-focused version puts a short black pocket vest over a broad dark-red tee, then balances the upper layers with loose ripstop cargos and folded-cuff canvas boots.
A contemporary outfit informed by the dark utility direction associated with trap-metal visuals. Its four independently selected pieces form an original combination, rather than a replica of a performer’s outfit.
History
In a 2018 Metal Hammer interview, Scarlxrd describes screamed vocals over trap beats circulating on SoundCloud, while explaining that his own sound extends beyond those two labels. He also traces his developing appearance through metal, anime and successive clothing choices. This guide uses that documented crossover as its music context.
What defines the look
Scarlxrd told PAUSE in September 2018 that a largely black wardrobe simplified dressing. Its accompanying shoot, photographed by Jack Bridgland and styled by Samantha Ria, shows dark hooded sportswear and wide trousers alongside other editorial looks. The black utility layer here develops that broader dark streetwear direction; the red tee, specific pocket arrangement and hair streaks are our choices. The outfit works through three visible lengths: short vest, slightly longer tee and roomy trouser leg. Metal snaps repeat down the torso, while boot eyelets carry a smaller highlight at ground level. Keep the tee plain so the vest pockets remain clear. A close black palette needs texture differences—smooth nylon, cotton jersey and a subtle ripstop grid—to keep the layers readable.
Hair & styling details
Cut straight black hair around the collarbone with a center part and two narrow wine-red front sections. Keep the ends light and separate from the vest shoulders so the pockets remain visible.
Smudge charcoal liner close to both lash lines and taper the outer corner. Soft rose-brown lips and restrained skin shading balance the dark eyes and red hair accents.

Build your own look
Pieces to start with
- Roomy solid-color tee
- Choose a broad sleeve and a high crewneck that stays visible inside the vest’s V. Let the hem extend a few centimeters below the vest; too much extra length can hide the trouser shape.
- Short utility vest
- Use open armholes that clear the tee sleeves. Keep the vest close enough for the pocket arrangement to read, with space to sit and reach. A central zip and a few repeated snaps provide the main hardware.
- Ripstop cargo trousers
- Allow room at the thigh and knee, then lightly gather the ankle ties above the boot cuff. Keep one clear cargo pocket on each thigh; added straps and extra pockets would crowd this already detailed outfit.
- Fold-over canvas boots
- Fold the cuff and tongue evenly so the patches and snaps remain visible. Lace the instep securely and settle the trouser hem just above the fold. Try the actual pair before planning a long show or walk.

Ways to put it together
Styling suggestions from Coreification.
- Illustrated: dark-red roomy tee + short black pocket vest + black ripstop cargos + folded-cuff canvas boots. Leave a narrow red hem below the vest.
- Graphic variation: black artist tee + open utility vest + straight dark trousers + lace-up boots. Let the tee print occupy the open center and keep outer pockets quiet.
