Washed layers and dark eyes
Witch House
Witch House styling brings dark sportswear, loose layers and shadowed eyes into a music-centered look. This restrained version uses a washed charcoal hoodie around a muted purple tee, with loose black denim and all-black canvas high tops. Texture and a narrow strip of color keep the dark layers separate.
A contemporary casual interpretation of the music’s dark visual setting. The four selected products form an original outfit; the wearer references show varied sportswear and everyday layers rather than this exact combination.
Background
By May 2010, Joe Colly’s Pitchfork reporting described geographically scattered artists making slow, ghostly electronic music under several emerging names, including witch house. His interviews connect the sound with chopped-and-screwed hip-hop. In a 2013 interview with The Music, Pictureplane’s Travis Egedy recalled using the term playfully and watching it gain a wider life.
What defines the look
Artist photographs help separate the music’s visual atmosphere from a single wardrobe formula. Annie Eversz’s photographs accompanying Dazed’s Salem interview show a pale hoodie, a checked shirt and relaxed tees. These everyday layers sit beside the darker sportswear and stronger eye makeup found in other scene imagery. Here the hoodie’s short ribbed hem frames a slightly longer purple tee. Loose denim balances the upper volume; black rubber and canvas keep the shoes part of the same dark outline. Washed cotton, smooth jersey and denim provide three distinct surfaces. Leave the zipper open and keep the trouser hems clear of the ground so those decisions remain visible.
Hair & styling details
Keep ash-blond hair in loose, separated waves around the ears and nape, with a light off-center part. Let a few front strands fall across the forehead without hiding both eyes.
Blend charcoal pencil close to the lash line and soften its edge. For a stronger scene-inspired version, deepen the outer corners and lower lashes; keep the skin and lips softly finished.

Build your own look
Pieces to start with
- Purple crew-neck tee
- Use a high crewneck and a hem a few centimeters below the hoodie. A plain purple center gives the open jacket a clear shape; keep it muted enough to sit with charcoal.
- Washed dark zip hoodie
- Check the hoodie over the actual tee for shoulder and sleeve room. Let the hood rest flat at the neck and use the zipper opening to control the visible color. Narrow welt pockets keep the front quiet.
- Loose black jeans
- Choose room through the thigh and knee, with a small amount of stacking above the shoe. Check the inseam while wearing the footwear; the back hem should stay off the ground.
- Monochrome canvas high tops
- Black laces, toe rubber and sidewall continue the trouser color. Keep the toe cap visible and the laces tied; allow the jeans to cover part of the canvas shaft.
