Botanical embroidery, checked tweed and wide black trousers
Witchy Academia
Witchy Academia combines bookish tailoring with dark botanical and storybook details. Checked tweed, collared shirts and long trousers provide the structure; embroidery and shadowy patterns add the witch-inspired element. Here, a black floral shirt sits above wide pleated trousers, with a brown blazer and rounded leather shoes.

Background
Witchy Academia appears among the Dark Academia variants discussed in Cyntia Kálmánová’s 2025 article Shaping Dark Academia. Contemporary styling combines familiar academic pieces with ornamental, botanical or celestial details. Bad Moon’s Magic Academia collection offers a retail example of that combination through patterned blouses, dark layers and tailored jackets.
What defines the look
Tuck the soft black shirt into the high pleated waistband, letting its gathered sleeves keep their volume. Lavender sprigs and a faint thorn-and-skull weave supply the decorative detail. Carry the checked blazer over one forearm to show the shirt’s sleeve embroidery; worn open, the same jacket frames the decorated chest. Long black trousers continue the dark shirt color and fall broadly over rounded brown shoes. The dry tweed and pebbled leather add different surfaces to the nearly black center. Loose black waves and a lightly smudged plum-brown lashline give the face the same romantic atmosphere. Another combination can use a plain blouse, checked skirt and small moon pendant, with the celestial detail replacing the embroidery.
Hair & styling details
Soft black waves with a long loose fringe frame the forehead and cheekbones. Keep the ends near the collar.
A fine plum-brown smudged lashline and neutral rose lips add quiet definition. Use soft brows and light face shading.

Build your own look
Pieces to start with
- Embroidered black shirt
- A pointed collar and pintucked upper front retain the shirt structure. Lavender and gold botanical stitching makes the decorative theme visible.
- Brown windowpane blazer
- Fine checks and notched lapels establish the tailored layer. Carry it over one arm to expose the shirt’s embroidered sleeves.
- Wide pleated black trousers
- Tuck the shirt into a defined waistband and let the long single-pleat legs fall freely. Keep the hems close to the shoe tops.
- Rounded brown lace-up shoes
- Pebbled dark brown leather repeats the blazer’s earthy color. A low three-eye shape provides a simple base beneath the broad legs.
