Indie Sleaze
Indie Sleaze mixes ordinary tees and narrow denim with loose tailoring, short party pieces and conspicuous shine. Tousled hair, a side fringe and smudged dark eyeliner complete its deliberately undone appearance. The name now describes a range of looks associated with 2000s music and nightlife.

History
The name became popular after the scenes it describes. In El Hunt's February 2022 NME interviews, curator Olivia recalls naming the @indiesleaze account during renewed interest in the period, while White Heat organizer Marcus Harris describes London club connections between guitar and electronic music. Those accounts support a later label for varied communities, rather than one founder or founding date.
What defines the look
Mark Hunter's retrospective Vogue interview and nightlife photographs document casual basics mixed with conspicuous party clothing. Selim Bulut's Rolling Stone UK essay questions the predicted 2022 revival and its flattening of distinct music scenes. For this outfit, the contrast is specific: a plain V-neck and flat canvas shoes make a silver mini and black blazer look less formally dressed. Keep the jacket open, the tee lightly tucked and the sequin surface visible below the jacket hem.
Hair & styling details
Work a soft black or charcoal pencil close to the upper and lower lash lines, then blur its outer edge. Keep the mouth neutral so the smoky eye remains the strongest makeup detail.
A tousled shoulder-length cut with a side-swept fringe echoes the drawn look. Separate a few uneven strands around the face and leave the ends loose, avoiding a polished curled finish.

Pieces to start with
- An ordinary tee
- A grey V-neck, striped tee or personally chosen band shirt gives a simple base. Look for a neckline and sleeve length that sit comfortably beneath the jacket. In the illustration, a light tuck lets the silver skirt remain visible.
- Relaxed tailoring
- An open black blazer frames the tee and gives the outfit a dressier outline. Check the length against the skirt or trousers: the hem can overlap, while enough of the lower layer stays visible to show the combination. Patch pockets keep this selected jacket relatively informal.
- One reflective surface
- A densely sequined mini provides the main flash of light. Check that its lining lies smoothly and the hem allows a normal stride. Matte jersey and a black jacket keep the discs visually distinct. Dark tights can be added without changing the short-over-long jacket proportion.
