Mandrake

Mandrake is a Brazilian style associated with funk and peripheral communities around Sao Paulo and the Baixada Santista. Its clothing vocabulary can combine polos or football shirts, easy sports bottoms, conspicuous technical trainers and mirrored wraparound glasses. Individual combinations, labels and grooming give these familiar sports pieces a particular local expression.

This guide focuses on that sportswear branch of an established community style. Mandraka is also used, especially for feminine expressions; neither term describes one fixed uniform.

Glamour Brasil documented Mandrake in December 2021, and a February 2023 Capricho interview discussed its wider social-media visibility. These are dates of coverage and broader attention; the funk-linked clothing culture predates them.

What defines the look

Capricho places the look within music, local identity and creative self-presentation. Listening to community voices and noticing how wearers combine pieces adds context beyond a shopping list. Local makers and stylists belong in that picture alongside internationally recognised sports labels.

Hair & styling details

A neat crop, braids or loose natural texture can all work. Keep glasses secure and choose a hair shape that feels like your own everyday presentation.

Fresh skin, shaped brows and a lip finish you enjoy are enough. More elaborate liner or nails can add an individual accent without requiring everyone to share one beauty formula.

Pieces to start with

Polo or football shirt
Choose a collar or jersey graphic you enjoy, then give it room to sit naturally over the waist. A single strong top works well with quieter trousers; a front tuck can shorten a long hem.
Easy sports bottoms
Track pants, relaxed joggers or shorts create a mobile base. Set the hem above the sole so the footwear remains visible, and check the waistband while sitting or dancing.
Technical trainers
