Background
The Museum at FIT’s 2019 Minimalism/Maximalism exhibition traced changing approaches to restraint and excess across several centuries of fashion. Its objects include richly decorated clothes and bold animal pattern. Maxicore develops that interest in visual abundance through contemporary combinations; this outfit concentrates it in a striped shirt and full leopard-print jeans.
What defines the look
Give each print a different rhythm. The shirt’s narrow uneven pale stripes run down a red ground, with a point collar and a single chest pocket breaking up the lines. Let the body sit loosely at the hip so the pattern continues across a broad area. Keep most of the front button line visible and allow the cuff shape to remain simple. The trousers answer with dense irregular leopard rosettes. Their full straight legs make the print a large continuous lower surface, with a small hem break above the flats. Red shoes repeat the shirt color in a solid area, helping the two prints feel connected. A compact gray-green nylon bag gives the eye a quieter place to rest near the shoulder. Long dark waves with warm copper strands add soft movement, while a fine coral eye line repeats the red at a much smaller scale.
