Princely tailoring with a soft storybook portrait
Princecore
Princecore brings a storybook quality to tailored clothes through decorative fabric, raised collars and romantic hair. A royal-blue brocade waistcoat frames the white gathered sleeves in this outfit, while off-white trousers and plain mahogany boots keep its outline long and clear. Soft chestnut waves and a gentle expression complete the youthful princely character.
A modern fantasy combination of decorative tailoring, a ruffled shirt and ordinary straight trousers.
Background
Decorated menswear offers one historical reference for this look. The Met’s Elaborate Embroidery exhibition documented European fabrics and samples from about 1760–1815, including work from French workshops. The selected modern waistcoat uses woven brocade, a different technique from embroidery. Princecore here combines that ornamental interest with a storybook character; the sources do not establish a single founder or start date for the label.
What defines the look
Keep the decoration concentrated around the upper body. The waistcoat’s dark blue scrolling pattern and small metal buttons provide structure, while the gathered white sleeves soften its edges. A short vest works best when the trousers rise high enough to meet it. Medium-long waves around the ears and nape reinforce the romantic portrait without hiding the collar. Ouji is a related Japanese fashion with its own community vocabulary and trouser-based coordinates, described in Buttcape’s firsthand guide. This outfit instead mixes a contemporary Regency-styled vest, theatrical shirt, modern trousers and Chelsea boots.
Hair & styling details
Use medium-long softly waved hair with a loose central or off-center part. Let the sides curve around the ears and keep the nape soft, leaving the standing collar distinct.
Keep the face fresh with natural brows, a little warm color in the cheeks and softly rose lips. Avoid heavy sculpting; gentle eyes and an unforced expression suit the romantic tailoring.

Build your own look
Pieces to start with
- Blue brocade waistcoat
- Choose a small repeating pattern and check that the armholes accommodate the shirt. A raised collar and narrow row of buttons give the upper half a composed outline.
- White gathered-sleeve shirt
- Look at where the vest conceals front ruffles. Sleeve gathering and small cuff frills can carry the effect when most of the shirt front is covered.
- High-rise straight trousers
- Meet the vest hem at the natural waist. Keep the front plain and the leg straight enough to fall cleanly over ankle boots, with only a small hem break.
- Smooth brown ankle boots
- A plain Chelsea front keeps attention on the brocade. Check the trouser opening against the shaft so the hem does not catch on the elastic sides.

Ways to put it together
Styling suggestions from Coreification.
- Illustrated outfit: blue brocade vest + white gathered shirt + off-white straight trousers + mahogany Chelsea boots. Leave the vest front visible and shape the hair into loose curtains.
- Quieter everyday version: dark subtly patterned vest + plain standing-collar shirt + cream trousers + brown low shoes. Keep a soft wave at the forehead and reduce the sleeve volume.
