Rokku Gyaru

Also written Rock Gyaru

Rokku Gyaru brings rock clothing into gyaru styling: dark fitted tops, short denim or plaid bottoms, metal hardware and substantial shoes meet carefully emphasized eyes and styled hair. The combination feels dressed up even when its fabrics are distressed.

An established gyaru branch with documented international community styling in 2016 and 2023. The examples show continued participation, rather than a measured recent surge in popularity.

History

A 2016 participant account of a Harajuku fashion show explicitly identified Rokku as its rock-influenced gyaru look. In 2023, wearer Cecilia Morales documented a corset, black shorts, plaid gloves, chain necklace and knee socks under the same name.

What defines the look

Gyaru’s hair and makeup remain central to this direction. Clothing can borrow from punk and gothic wardrobes, but the overall composition also depends on deliberate eye definition, hair shape and a polished finish. Individual wearers combine those elements differently.

Hair & styling details

Emphasize both upper and lower lash lines, adding separated false lashes and a softly highlighted inner corner if desired. A lightly glossy neutral lip leaves the eyes prominent.

Build some crown volume and shape the ends into loose waves or a textured updo. Chestnut colour or lighter face-framing strands echo documented community looks without being a requirement.

Pieces to start with

Detailed fitted top
Choose an opaque corset-style top with visible seams, lacing or buckled straps. Fit it comfortably through the ribs and leave the fastenings readable rather than covering everything with necklaces.
Dark short bottoms
Black denim shorts create a compact outline beneath a longer fitted top. Light fading and raw hems add texture; choose a length and rise that feel secure when you sit or move.
Substantial footwear
Rounded lace-up boots give the short silhouette a firm base. Ankle socks can disappear inside them, while knee socks make a stronger graphic division along the leg.
Metal and plaid accents
Start with one curb chain, then add a plaid wrist piece or small patterned bag if wanted. Repeat the hardware tone so the details feel connected instead of competing.
