Background
JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles’ 2024 exhibition with Sebastian Masuda Studio places kawaii within postwar media, shōjo manga and later Harajuku expression. Its cultural overview also discusses character goods and consumer design. These provide a wider setting for the flowers, soft colors and character-shaped bag selected here.
What defines the look
Choose a few readable motifs and connect them through color. The cardigan’s large flowers and checkerboard sleeves are already busy, so the trousers use one washed pink field. Their utility pockets give the outfit an everyday casual shape instead of a party-dress silhouette. White shoes repeat the rabbit bag’s pale face, while the bag’s black edge makes its ears easy to recognize.
