Kidcore
Kidcore uses childhood color and playful small objects as fashion references. Background
Maria Inês Pinto’s February 2023 Vogue Portugal essay discusses Kidcore through bright colors, beads, overalls and nostalgia. The article supplies a dated use of the label rather than its first appearance. Masaba Gupta’s Vogue India interview about her Spring/Summer 2021 Masabaland collection provides a separate designer account of childhood color and print memories; that collection is an adjacent example, not named Kidcore in the interview.
What defines the look
Use the dungarees as the largest color area and place narrow stripes behind the bib. Red shoes repeat the sleeves, while the small yellow bag keeps the palette from becoming only red and blue. A bracelet of translucent smiley beads supplies the toy-like detail seen in the style references without hiding the garment shape. Roll the hems enough to show the canvas shoes and push the sleeves just clear of the wrist. Fluffy hair, rosy cheeks and a small bright eye accent continue the playful color above the neckline. A simpler version can keep the same three-color arrangement and one recognizable small accessory.
